I’m Patrick Mineault, a 23 year old student and freelance living in Montreal. I’m doing a joint honours in Physics and Math at McGill University, along with a minor in neuroscience, which includes courses in biology, physiology, biochem and psychology. Previously I’ve studied Mechanical engineering and computer science at Laval University in Quebec City.

I’ve been freelancing for a few years and own my own outsourcing company, 5 1/2. I’ve been doing Flash for quite some time. I’m also well versed in PHP and am Zend-certified.

Anyway, I program for a living, my real passions are math, physics, biology, philosophy and music (mostly classical and jazz). I’m planning on studying for another ten years or so, unless I decide to change the world, in which case I’ll probably do something highly political.

I’m especially interested in exploring alternative business models like the cooperative, or coop/corp hybrids. I’d like to get something off the ground along those lines for online participative democracy ASPs, or an investment fund in green energy. I’m a heartless environmentalist; I couldn’t care less about snap-happy white seals, but I do take bio-diversity and climate change very seriously. I bike 9 months a year (not an unimpressive feat in Montreal), and take the metro otherwise. Plans for the summer is buying a bike in London and going as far as my legs will take me; I’m hoping to do 10,000 kms in 4 months, seeing a good part of western Europe along the way.

I’m very left-wing, my heart being with anarcho-syndicalism but my brain with social democracy. I’m a member of the NDP, webmaster of the NDP McGill club, and am participating in the NDP campaign for the 2006 Canadian elections in the NDG Lachine riding. Later on I may get involved on the publicity/web side of things at the provincial or federal level, to get experience while offering some valuable knowledge, hopefully running my own campaign before I’m 30.
