Why Flash Developers Should Care About Flex

Posted on Monday 10 January 2005

A very interesting post by Jesse Warden that triumphantly announces the future of Flex and ending with a ravaging conclusion that most everyone knows already: it’s just too expensive!

Seriously, I think Flex is awesome because it finally creates a serious environment for RIA developers (Flash, isn’t that the cartoon software?), but I keep thinking that at the price of the license, to offset the actual implementation costs, we’re thinking in terms of apps of more 50k$. Who has that kind of money? Flash development has always been driven by freelancers, but honestly, we don’t have a place in this new Flex scheme. MM has locked us out of this new market, until it offers Flex on shared servers for lower-end apps. Small businesses drive the whole industry, don’t forget about us!
