[OT] Seeing forests die through Google Maps

Posted on Tuesday 12 April 2005

Dave Shea of Mezzoblue reports on the very visible clear-cutting of forests near Vancouver through Google Maps’ new satellite photo features. Those from Quebec will want to take look in Abitibi, near Amos for an equally frightening example on what’s going on up north right here in Quebec. Here is another example near Lebel-sur-Quévillon, also in Abitibi.

Richard Desjardins, a popular singer and songwriter in Quebec, signed a film a few years ago called l’Erreur Boréale that showed these same forests from the ground. It’s quite depressing to see what the industry has caused in the North, be it in BC, in Quebec, in Brazil and wherever else someone saw there was money to be made. What’s more, after an immense media coverage, policies did not change and they are still cutting up in the North. As the Cowboys Fringants said:

Ben si c’est ça le Québec moderne, moé j’mets mon drapeau en berne, pis j’emmerde tous les bouffons qui nous gouvernent.
