RSS reader tutorial

Posted on Friday 22 April 2005

Just noticed this, a nice tutorial on reading RSS in Flash is available here at GoldenMean, covering everything from the basics of XML handling to PHP proxying to XPath. Nice.

On the subject of tutorials, I’ve recently had the honour of winning the actionscript.org Massive competition for some of my tutorials on actionscript (they’re linked in the menu to the right). I’ve written two tutorials, one on PrintJob and the other on Delegate about three months ago but they haven’t been published yet, hopefully it’ll be there in the following days (hint, hint). Apparently Strok’s on vacation and they’ve been having email trouble.

I have to admit I’m considering publishing them somewhere else. Jesse’s a great guy but actionscript.org’s starting to look abandoned, my stuff isn’t getting published, and I don’t appreciate the new text links that pop up advertisements that are now included on the tutorial pages (though I’ve solved the issue on my computer thanks to a tailor made GreaseMonkey script). I mean every time I write “movie clip” I get Hollywood propaganda, that’s just distracting. Then there’s DevShed but the text links are even worse there. Flashkit was taken over by script kiddies several years ago. I could just post the tutorials on my blog, but I know that I can reach more people by posting to a more general site. Anyone has a better idea?
