I’ve switched over to FAME this last weekend after starting a project that ate all my RAM in the IDE and must have taken a minute to compile. TRACE() won’t work for me (don’t ask), but luckily the NetConnection debugger and the LuminicBox logger do. The third piece of the puzzle is the AdminTool which is now available for FAME. In short, John simply wrapped the connector into a swf and made a small interface to load the movie. Should work for debugging Flex, Central, whatever too. Get the scoop here.
My 2 cents on FAME: I agree with Keith that the text editor is poor compared to alternatives to SEPY or PrimalScript. But damn, it compiles fast! For my coding style fast compile is essential, so I’m sticking with it. I have high hopes that either 1) ASDT will bring better syntax highlighting and auto-completion or 2) Allessandro finds the time to fully integrate MTASC into SEPY (meaning Ctrl+Enter will either pop up errors or launch the generated swf, using settings presumably defined in an flp). As a sidenote, the new version of Flashout is miles ahead of the old version which Keith referred to in his post. Big thumbs up for Eugene for his nice work. Check out his JSFL extensions, they are really quite nice as well (hey, I still use the IDE for layouts ;).
