New debugging tool in town: LuminicBox.Log

Posted on Friday 10 June 2005

LuminicBox.Log is a nice little debugging tool that’s basically trace++. It comes with two publishers, one for the trace window and one for LocalConnection-based logging. The LocalConnection-based logging really shines, the interface it flawless and unobstrusive and it’s a swf so it opens immediately (what have they been putting in the Zinc init code lately, looks like it takes as much time to open an exe’ed swf as Photoshop). It handles all the standards, like recursive logging of objects, trace levels (debug, info, warn, error, fatal), takes about 3k once compiled, works like a charm. This, the AdminTool and the NetConnection debugger should be open at all times on that second monitor.

The site is in Spanish, but just grab the zip and then the instructions are in English. I recommend that you make the logger instance a static var of your main controller for ease of use. Love the site design btw, the Dali painting really shines. Okay folks, here’s a Dali joke:

Q. Why did Dali have trouble selling his ’soft watches’ paintings during the depression?
A. Because during the depression, times were hard.

*Joke originally by Le Calembour Masqué, taken from Croc Magazine in the early 90’s.
