I’m back

Posted on Monday 11 September 2006

I just got back from a very long and trying trip. Here are the pics. Well I’d really like to write all about it but unfortunately I think I just need to sit down and wait for the dust to settle as I am ridiculously tired. Needless to say Europe was incredible. After spending two weeks in the US, I can honestly say I felt a lot more at home in Hamburg or London then in Seattle or New York. Maybe it’s those remnants of French culture in the Québécois, but there really is something there. In the end I went to Paris, Normandy, Brittany, London, Holland, Hamburg, Norway, back to Hamburg, Copenhagen, Montreal (2 days), New York, Seattle, New York, and back to Montreal. I am think I am just about saturated with every kind of experience imaginable at this point. Good times.

I had the joy of crashing at a few flashers’ places while I was in Europe, and I would like to thank them all for being so kind and generous and remind everyone as well that my door is always open if you’re ever in Montreal. In particular, thanks to Micaël in Normandy, Thomas and Tink in London, and Sönke in Hamburg, and apologies if I was a bit of a nuisance or caused marital/gf issues. Also thanks to everyone who joined me for a wild night out in London, there must have been 10-12 people there, gosh, I didn’t know I had so many friends. Sorry if I didn’t to talk to everyone, by 10 I was mighty wasted (as can easily be seen from the pictures).

Some stats:

  • Total biking done: 1600 kms/1000 miles
  • Furthest away from civilization: Lofoten islands, Norway, north of the Arctic circle
  • Most beautiful women are in: Copenhagen
  • Most bike friendly city is: Copenhagen
  • Least beautiful women are in: London
  • Least bike friendly city is: London (do you see a connection here?)
  • Most expensive place is: Norway, where you can enjoy 3 hot dogs and a coke at a gas station for 18$

I’ll get back to working on amfphp/projects in about a week or so but I have a terrible semester ahead of me so output will likely be reduced. I just took out the old home page on 5etdemi.com as I was really really tired of seeing it, I will replace the placeholder eventually, I have some interesting ideas for the new site but I’m a bit too busy (and lazy) for now. If I get time I will clean up the old source code for the site and release it. I’ve started working on Cake and I may have a tutorial up on it sometime in the future. Expect (further) amfphp features in Cake soon.
